The continued leadership was confirmed by a majority vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 10 November in Wagga Wagga.

Board Chair Dr Jodi Culbert said she was delighted to see the return of Ms Howard and Dr Scholtz, and in the level of interest for the directorships.

“Both Christine and Jacques bring invaluable expertise and passion to our Board and we’re looking forward to their continued contributions over the next three years,” Dr Culbert said.

“We had a large number of people nominating to be directors this year which is pleasing. It’s a good sign of the health of an organisation when there are talented, experienced people putting up their hand to join the Board.”

Christine Howard, the Director of Charles Sturt University’s Three Rivers Department of Rural Health, brings over 30 years of experience in rural health to the Board. With diverse executive health management and leadership experience, Ms Howard is dedicated to improving rural health outcomes in the Murrumbidgee region.

Dr Scholtz, a GP obstetrician in Cootamundra, advocates for equitable healthcare, family health and palliative care provision, and works towards an integrated primary healthcare model. Actively participating on MLHD and MPHN committees, he serves as the principal/owner of a large general practice.

The AGM also marked a significant milestone for firsthealth Limited, celebrating 30 years of supporting primary healthcare in the Murrumbidgee region.

Dr Culbert said as the organisation navigates the ever-changing landscape of healthcare, the Board’s commitment to driving improved health outcomes remains unwavering.

“Our journey highlights the importance of listening to clinicians and community to design local, innovative solutions for the challenges we face, and the need to collaborate with key partners to ensure improved experiences and outcomes from our healthcare system,” Dr Culbert said.

“With CEO Melissa Neal's leadership, and with strong partnerships, we continue to navigate reforms, advocate, and support primary healthcare providers, progressing toward our vision of well people and resilient communities."
