Triage in General Practice CPD Event - Part 1

Audience: Non Clinical General Practice Staff 

Presenter: Simon Gould - Medics for Life Group P/L 

Associate Degree in Vocational Education and Training, Diploma Paramedical Science, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE. Accredited RACGP EAR/Provider 

Simon Gould has over 30 years of experience in training and specialises in training workshops for primary care in NSW. Simon spent 10 years as the manager of an after-hours primary health care service in the Hunter Region including, GP Access After Hours. Prior to this, Simon spent 15 years as an NSW Ambulance Advanced Care Paramedic and Emergency Medical Dispatcher. Over his career he has developed nationally recognised triage protocols and training and also provides consultation services for health system developments throughout Australia and New Zealand. 

PLEASE NOTE THIS TRAINING WILL BE DELIVERED OVER TWO CONSECUTIVE WEDNESDAYS – BOTH SESSIONS NEED TO BE ATTENDED FOR THE COURSE TO BE COMPLETE AND CERTIFICATES MADE AVAILABLE

Learning Objectives; 

1. Able to implement and maintain an effective triage system in a general practice to mitigate risk in relation to the allocation of patient appointments that meets RACGP standards. 

2. Demonstrate effective triage skills in general practice, including appropriate referral. 

3. Demonstrate the effective use of triage tools and guidelines to assist in recognising the urgency and priority of patients seeking care and patients who may deteriorate in the waiting room. 

4. Discuss requirement for documentation of triage interactions, including advice received from other staff members.
