MPHN congratulates A/Prof Ayman Shenouda

On Sunday, 27 November 2022 at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) National Academic and Fellowship Awards ceremony, Wagga Wagga’s own Associate Professor Ayman Shenouda from Glenrock Country Practice was awarded the highest accolade, the Rose-Hunt Award.

MPHN’s Board Chair Dr Jodi Culbert said the award was fitting recognition for a general practitioner who is committed to improving patient care in rural and regional settings.

“The Rose-Hunt Award formally recognises Associate Professor Ayman Shenouda’s dedication to his patients and community, his leadership in multidisciplinary care, and his enthusiasm for mentoring and supporting the next generation of general practitioners. He has a particular focus on International Medical Graduates, of which he was one when he came to Australian from Egypt more than 30 years ago, whereby establishing a successful mentoring program for IMGs within the RACGP,” Dr Culbert said.

“Throughout his career, Ayman has held various leadership positions with industry peak bodies and training facilities, and he has a reputation as being a passionate advocate for the development of frameworks and systems to support general practitioners, and for advocating for access and equity for people living in rural and remote areas.

“On behalf of MPHN’s Board, executive and staff I would like to congratulate my fellow colleague Associate Professor Ayman Shendoua on receiving this prestigious award in recognition of his tireless work in general practice both through patient care and industry improvements and advocacy.”

MPHN’s Acting CEO Narelle Mills said A/Prof Ayman Shenouda has played a valued role in various MPHN committees including the Wagga GP After Hours Service, Wagga Wagga Clinical Council, and the COVID-19 Steering Committee.

“In his role as Chair of MPHN’s Wagga GP After Hours Service, and as a member of our Wagga Wagga Clinical Council and COVID-19 Steering Committee, Associate Professor Shenouda is always looking for ways to improve and promote access to primary care,” Ms Mills said.

“As an organisation, we are proud to have Associate Professor Shenouda give his time so generously and for his active contributions, both in terms of his leadership and advice, and for his participation in shifts as part of the Wagga GP After Hours Service rostering.

“My heartfelt congratulations to Associate Professor Shenouda on being honoured with this most prestigious award.”

The Rose-Hunt Award is awarded to an RACGP Fellow or member who, in the opinion of Council, has rendered outstanding service in the promotion of the objects of the RACGP, either by individual patient care, organisation, education, research or any other means. Outstanding service may be over a period of 10 years or a substantial and significant contribution to general practice over a shorter period.
