$220,000 delivered to support community health and wellbeing

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) has delivered more than $220,000 in funding to support community health and wellbeing activities as part of its Murrumbidgee Community Grants program.

Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network Acting CEO Julie Redway said the grants were made available to support the development of community activities that aimed to strengthen social connectedness and enhance physical and mental wellbeing.

“We are pleased to be able to support these outstanding local initiatives, and we are looking forward to seeing these wonderful programs deliver much needed wellbeing activities to many communities across the Murrumbidgee region,” Ms Redway said.

“The ongoing effects of drought, bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic are still being felt in our communities and these grants will ensure local people have the means to implement grassroots activities to improve wellbeing in their communities.”

A total of 42 activities and initiatives have been funded to support a variety of wellbeing activities, including community festivals, first aid training, wellbeing workshops and programs to encourage social inclusion and participation.

Lockhart Local Health Advisory Committee Chair Fran Day said the grant provides much needed support to community initiated activities.

“The importance of strong social connections cannot be underestimated. The MPHN Community Grant will allow Lockhart LHAC to make a real difference to the entire community across Lockhart Shire to improve social connections and health and well-being.”
